History of Deviled Eggs
According to history.com, deviled eggs originated in Rome, between the fourth and fifth century A.D. using several different types of binding and fillers other than mayonnaise.
By the 13th century, stuffed eggs began to appear in what is now known as Spain.
By the 15th century, these delicious eggs had made their way across much of Europe.
In the United States, the Fannie Farmer’s 1896 “Boston Cooking-School Cookbook” was one of the earliest to suggest the use of mayonnaise as a binder for the filling.
