History of Pizza

Pizza has been around longer than you might think.

According to Wikipedia,  French and Italian archaeologists have found bread baked over 7,000 years ago in Sardinia.

Modern pizza evolved from flatbread dishes in Naples, Italy, in the late18th or early 19th century.

Today, the conventional pizza is loaded with carbs, gluten and many times sugar.  This recipe gives you a delicious pizza without the bad stuff.

Ingredients for Crispy Keto Pizza Crust

This recipe uses whole, clean ingredients. Read more about why clean eating is important here.

Replace traditional white flour with almond flour.  I prefer the Kirkland brand of almond flour due to the smoother texture. All my baked goods have a better consistency when I use it instead of other brands I have tested.
You can find it at Costco or from Amazon here.

Grate your own mozzarella cheese whenever possible.  When you buy cheese already grated, yes, it's convenient but it contains added ingredients to keep it from caking. This additives are not the best choice for your health.

Pick any seasonings you prefer in the crispy Keto crust.  I like the ones listed here, but use your imagination and make it unique for you!

Select a pizza sauce, ensuring clean ingredients that is the lowest carb count you can found.  Make sure there is no added sugar to keep it healthy.

You can drizzle avocado or olive oil on top of the crust if you like the oil on top. Avocado adds some healthy fats and has a nice clean taste. It also has a high smoke point, so for this reason, is my favorite oil to use for cooking.

I save olive oil for salads and cold foods, like drizzling on avocado.

For toppings – go wild and make it your own pizza.  I prefer ground beef on mine, but Mike likes pepperoni.  Always but uncured pepperoni so you are limiting the amount of added nitrates as they have been linked to cancer.

For the ground beef, I trust ButcherBox, high quality meat delivered to your door, so easy and convenient!

I trust ButcherBox to source grass fed and finished meat from cows, heritage raised pigs, and free-range chickens that are never given antibiotics or added hormones.

They also have scallops, and wild-caught salmon from the pristine waters of Bristol Bay, Alaska.

Easy Keto Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/4 cup Almond Flour finely ground
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Basil
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper (I like a little kick)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning or Oregano
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup Pizza Sauce (find lowest carb version)
  • 1/2 tbsp Avocado Oil (optional - or olive oil)
  • Any low carb toppings you like

Instructions

  • Place a cooking stone in 375 degrees oven and let it preheat. (This is important to help the crust set and crisp up).
  • Put mozzarella cheese in glass bowl and add all seasonings. (Use any seasonings you like).
Place in microwave for 50 - 60 seconds, until melted. Remove bowl and mix well.
  • Add almond flour (half at a time) and mix until the dough creates a ball.
  • Place dough in between 2 pieces of parchment paper and flatten out until it is thin. (You could use a rolling pin if you have one, but I just used my hand)
You may need a hot pad to help flatten it out as it is hot.
    Place crust on hot stone.
  • Bake for 5 minutes with nothing on the crust.
  • Remove from oven.
Spread oil on crust and I like to sprinkle garlic powder on top of the oil (this is optional).
Spread pizza sauce over the oil.
  • Add toppings - I like beef, onion, cheddar, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, but this is where you can be creative.
  • Bake another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and enjoy! I top mine with some red pepper.
