Sharing is caring!

If you've heard about a health or weight loss coach, you may be wondering should I hire one? or Why would I need one?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention every 6 in 10 adults in the U.S. have a chronic disease, with 4 in 10 having 2 or more! That's very sad news and breaks my heart.

More and more retirees are experiencing financial problems due to medical costs, the number one reason for bankruptcy in the U.S.  More sad news!

How did we get here?  Too much convenient foods? Too little exercise? Too much sugar?

Most chronic diseases start with poor eating habits, resulting in obesity. Obesity is really just a sign and symptom of the underlying health problems.  By setting up a healthy foundation, your retiree years can be more pleasant and much less costly.

More and more adults are seeking health coaches to help them get their health back where it should be. Money invested in a health coach can save thousands of dollars in medical costs later.

Medical doctors are great at diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medicine to help but they lack the time to counsel patients on how to carry out heathy lifestyle choices. I go to a naturalpath doctor that I love, but her time is limited.  The office has a health coach and we work together to help with my eating choices and other healthy habits. It has made a HUGE difference in my health journey.

Should you consider hiring a health coach to help you get healthy or lose weight?  Read the reasons below to see if any apply to you.

You've Tried To Lose Weight But Can't

You've tried everything – Cabbage Soup Diet, Weight Watcher, Atkins, Low Calorie and the list goes on, but none of it works.

Many times the reasons diets fail is they are based on old science. A health coach can help you understand the latest research and findings based in science, not fads.

The main reasons diets tend to fail is mindset. The mind is very powerful and can sabotage your weight loss efforts without proper conditioning.  A coach can help you learn about the reasons your mind is not onboard and help you get your mindset in the right place.

Until you have your mindset in the right place, no diets will work.

You Have A Health Issue, Requiring Weight Loss

If you've been diagnosed with a disease or borderline issue that requires you to lose weight, a health coach can help you shed the pounds.

By working with you to help you understand your body and how it reacts to certain foods, a coach can set you on the right path.

Many disease can be reversed when you maintain a healthy weight and eat good food.  I was diagnosed with several different auto immune diseases that are in remission now.

The truth is – weight gain is a symptom of something else looming underneath.

Getting healthy is the top priority and the weight (or the symptom) will clear up as a result.

A coach is also there to hold you accountable and give you someone to confide in. Trainers are also good to have for leaning up your body, but the fact is your health is 85% what you eat and only 15% related to exercise.

You Lack The Motivation Needed to Lose Weight And Get Healthy

You know you need to lose weight, but you just don't have the energy or the “want to” to get started.

A health coach can help motivate you to do the right thing and make good choices.  Sometimes we know what we need to do but having a guide to remind us and hold us accountable makes a big difference.

Have you ever noticed the more you talk about something or keep it a priority in your mind, the more it happens?  Ever thought about buying a red shiny sports car and all of the sudden you see them everywhere?

The mind is a powerful tool and just having someone help you keep it fine tuned goes a long way.

You Have An Unhealthy Relationship With Food

Do you reach for comfort food when you're sad, upset, alone, bored?  Do you always plan the food first when planning a celebration?

Before I got to the place I am now, I spent most of the day planning the next meal. I felt hungry all the time and was always looking forward to the next meal.

Every celebration started with the food list first.

A health coach can help you come up with alternative ideas for dealing with emotions – the good and bad.  They can also be a sounding board when you go through rough spots to help you get through them without food.

You Have No Idea Where To Start In To Improve Your Health

It can be overwhelming when you start hearing all the different and sometimes controversial ideas out there about getting healthy and losing weight.

You hear it's all about calories in and calories burned, then you hear, no that is not the way to go low carb is and forget about calories. Then another will say through all that away and just cut back on fat.

How do you know what is the right plan for you?

A health coach will work with you to help you understand the latest research and what is best for your lifestyle and body.

You Need A Confidant To Share Feelings About Your Health

Family and friends are not always the best choice to share how you feel about your health and weight loss journey. They either have the same problems and brush yours away as “normal” or they don't understand why you can't just “suck it up” and get on board.

A neutral party can be objective and listen to how you feel and help you with ideas to get back on track.  You and your health coach should have a relationship that is confidential and allows you to talk openly and candid about problems and solutions.

You Need An Accountability Partner

Having an accountability partner can make a big difference in any project or goal you are working towards and your health is no different.

Knowing that someone is going to check in with you, gives you motivation to do the right thing so you can show better results.

I read a quote years ago in business that is true here too – “You get results for what you measure”.  Knowing that you are measuring your progress and going to share it with someone else, helps keep you on track.

A health coach changed my life and helped me kick cancer and lose 40 pounds in the process. After this, I went to school and became a certified coach so I could pass on this blessing to others.

If you are interested in working with me you can email me at jamie@healthywithjamie.com and we can schedule a free 30 minute call to see if we are a good fit. I also have a group coaching membership that is closed right now, but will open up again in the future.

  2. I love that you included this information because there is so much misinterpretation and stigmas related to seeking help with health and weight. People assume it’s just about deciding to make the change, but many other factors could be pertinent.
