Keto Sugar Free Whipped Cream Recipe

Looking for the best Keto low carb sugar free whipped cream with clean ingredients? – or as my mom used to call it “Whipping Cream”. 

This one is sure to please and make all your Keto treats that much better with this on top!

It's really easy to “whip” up ( no pun intended – ha) and adds a nice touch to any dessert. You can even add a little flavoring and eat it by itself when a sweet craving hits.

History Of Whipped Cream

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the name whipped cream has been around since 1673.

There are recipes dating back to 1549 from Italy, and France in 1604.  In France, whipped cream was originally called crème fouettée.

Why Make Your Own Sugar Free Whipped Cream?

Making your own whipped cream ensures you have clean whole ingredients and not chemical additives.

Have you heard of the Twinkie left out for 30 years and it never changed?  That's thanks to additives and chemicals your body doesn't need. That is just not natural.

A spokeswoman for Hostess has actually said the modern day Twinkie has a shelf life of 65 days, but when left out longer, it doesn't seem to change much.

In another experiment, Cool Whip was left out of the fridge for 12 days and didn't change much until the 12th day when it started turning into a hard plastic like substance. You can read more in the The Horrifying 12-day Cool Whip Experiment here. 

Most of us have eaten Cool Whip in our lifetime.  I remember eating it right out of the container as a kid. But today's Cool Whip is not the same as what we ate growing up.

Here are some ingredients in the current version or Cool Whip:

  • High-fructose corn syrup and corn syrup (made form genetically modified corn)
  • Hydrogenated vegetable oil — anything hydrogenated is NOT good for your body. Learn what hydrogenated means and read more about the harmful affects in 13 Healthiest Cooking Oils.
  • Polysorbate 60 — an emulsifier also used in various types of lubricants YUK
  • Xanthan and guar gums — for thickening
  • Sorbitan monostearate — keeps it's form, but again – not good for you.
  • Sodium caseinate — allows the water and oils mix – but an additive your body doesn't know how to digest
  • Skim Milk
  • Less than 2% actual cream

Ingredients of Keto Sugar Free Whipped Cream

Traditional whipped cream contains sugar, of course, to make it sweet. This recipe uses powdered erythritol which contains 0 net carbs. (learn to calculate net carbs, in Keto Diet Frequently Asked Questions Answered

The ingredients in this recipe are:

  • Sugar-free
  • Low-carb
  • Full of healthy fats for the energy
  • Contain calcium for bones
  • Also have vitamins A and B

Organic Heavy Cream – (see below for a non dairy Keto Whipped Cream) Heavy cream will whip up stiffer, hold its shape longer and provide a creamier texture.  The heavy cream also has more fat which is always a plus for a Keto lifestyle! Horizon Organic Heavy Cream is my favorite.

Why organic?  According to the Horizon Organic Website: During conversion and after, the use of toxic, persistent pesticides, most commercial fertilizers, GMO seeds and sewage sludge are strictly prohibited. Organic cows eat an all-organic, non-GMO diet, and are not treated with growth hormones or antibiotics. And they spend a minimum of 120 days a year outside, grazing on organic pasture.

You can search the Horizon Website to find where you can purchase their products, but it can usually be found at Kroger, Whole Foods, Sprouts or wherever you find organic foods.

On non organic farms, the cows are usually pinned up, eating genetically modified (GMO) food and being shot with antibiotics and hormones. You don't need that in your body for a host of reasons that could be a whole other article.

ErythritolThis powdered version is less grainy and gives a more fluffy consistency.

Powdered or confection type erythritol is hard to find in the stores but you can order it from Amazon here. This is by far the best brand I've found.

Regular powdered or confectionist sugar, contains 8 net carbs and this erythritol version contains 0. 


Vanilla – Choosing the best vanilla is an important key.  Again, organic is best to ensure there are no pesticides used. Simply Organic is my favorite brand.

Make Dairy Free Keto Whipped Cream

If you need to make a dairy free whipped cream, use Coconut cream instead of regular heavy cream, using the same amount.

The coconut cream is like having whipped cream in a can! The canned version will last longer on the shelf too. I prefer Trader Joe's brand. 

TIP: Chill the can of coconut cream in the fridge overnight before using.

Important Steps For Preparing

    • Before starting the recipe, chill your mixing bowl and beaters or whisk in freezer for 15- 30 minutes to make the cream better.
    • Do NOT over beat. If you over beat, you will end up with a flat grainy texture.  If this happens, stop beating and add a few fresh tablespoons of the heavy cream and gently hand beat with a whisk
    • Use a splash guard, available from Amazon, to prevent the cream from splashing out of the bowl.

Best Keto Whipped Cream

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipped Cream Organic preferred
  • 2 tbsp Powdered Erythritol
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Or other flavored extracts

Instructions
 

  • Place mixing bowl, whisk or beaters in freezer at least 15 - 30 minutes before starting
  • Place all ingredients in chilled mixing bowl
  • Beat on high until stiff peaks form (1-3 minutes) Do not over beat!
  • Enjoy!

Best Non Dairy Keto Whipped Cream

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Coconut Cream organic preferred
  • 2 tbsp Powdered Erythritol
  • 1 tsp Vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Place mixing bowl, beaters or whisk in freezer for at least 15 - 30 minutes before starting
  • Place all ingredients in chilled bowl
  • Beat on high until still peaks form (1-3 minutes). Do not over beat
  • Enjoy!

Stabilized Keto Whipped Cream

If you want “stabilized” Keto whipped cream, add 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tarter in with the erythritol. This will allow it to last longer in the fridge.

Different Flavors Of Keto Sugar Free Whipped Cream

Experiment with different extracts to get just the right flavor to go with your perfect Keto treat. One of my favorites is almond, but you could also try rum, banana, coconut, maple or coffee.

Chocolate stevia is good to add also and in the fall add some cinnamon, nutmeg or pumpkin spice!  YUM!

Storing Keto Sugar Free Whipped Cream

Store any left over Keto whipped cream in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator. This sugar free whipped cream will normally last about 2-3 days in the fridge.

If you start to see if get liquid on the bottom, it's time to toss it.
